Brahmacharini Mata is one of the nine forms of Goddess Durga. She is also known as Brahmacharini Shakti. Brahmacharini Mata is the goddess of learning and wisdom. Brahmacharini images are found in many temples and shrines dedicated to her.
Brahmacharini Mata is depicted as a beautiful woman, wearing white clothes and holding a Rudraksha rosary and a lotus flower in her hands. Brahmacharini images show her in different poses, sometimes teaching or writing on a slate, or engaged in deep meditation.
In some Brahmacharini images she is shown with two Brahma birds perched on her shoulders. These birds represent the knowledge and wisdom that Brahmacharini Mata imparts to her devotees.
Brahmacharini puja is performed on the second day of Navratri, the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. Brahmacharini Mata is worshipped on this day for learning, wisdom and knowledge. Brahmacharini Mata images are used in her puja, and her devotees chant mantras and sing devotional songs in her honor.
Brahmacharini Mata is considered to be an incarnation of Goddess Parvati, one of the consorts of Lord Shiva.
