One of the most popular shrines in India, Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is situated in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Perched atop a hill in the Trikuta Mountains, the temple is a major pilgrimage destination for Hindus. Millions of devotees visit the temple every year to seek Mata Vaishno Devi’s blessings.
The temple is said to be over 5,000 years old and is believed to be the abode of Mata Vaishno Devi, a manifestation of Goddess Durga. Mata Vaishno Devi is also known as Mata Rani or Mother Goddess. The main attraction of the temple is the holy cave where Mata Vaishno Devi is said to have taken shelter during her battle with demon Mahishasura.
The Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is located at an altitude of 5,200 feet and can be reached after a strenuous hike of about 13 kilometers from the town of Katra. The temple is open throughout the year and the best time to visit is between the months of April and October.
